A Malmö apartment with a mid-century touch

Well hello there Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! It's half term here in Southern Sweden so I'm gearing up for a trip to London later this week - sooo excited! Are you up to anything fun? Today I'd like to share this lovely apartment here in Malmö with you. There's just something about it I love - could it be the mid-century touches? Most likely! But also the elements of surprise such as the bright floral printed cushion against the green harlequin wallpaper in the hall or the pom poms in the bedroom. So pretty! What do you love about this home?

A few items I know and love: Prints: apple papple, pirum parum, Martin Lannering insect alphabet. String shelves. Hay industrial lamp. 

I know it sounds crazy but my family and I are already talking about what to do next summer! I think it's because the days are getting so short. A few weeks ago I received a mail about Villa Pia in Lippiano, between Tuscany and Umbria in Italy. I immediately started dreaming about sipping a cappuccino while looking out over the olive groves, vineyards and a 10th century castle in the distance. And Villa Pia sounds totally family friendly too. The 5 acre grounds offer two swimming pools, play areas and a trampoline. And children are welcome to join cookery and art classes (my girls would be in heaven!). And for us adults they offer cookery classes, pilates and wine tasting (I guess not all at the same time!) among other things. Could I have found my summer vacation 2015?!

A Swedish apartment with a mid-century touch

I do love a touch of mid-century in a home. And this space in Gothenburg has blended it in with some contemporary Scandinavian pieces so incredibly well. Just look at that mid-century cabinet paired with a Hay strap mirror and brass lamp next to a set of String system shelving. What a great combination!

I think this is the third time this week we've seen a black and white kitchen - your style or not? For some alternative kitchen inspiration I have over 1300 beautiful kitchen and dining spaces (yes really! Sign of a slight Pinterest addiction?!) hoarded on my Kitchen Pinterest board.

And there's that wonderful cross blanket again. This time draped over a very cool vintage leather sofa.

A relaxed family home in the Australian countryside

The weekend calls for a super relaxed home where you feel you can just kick off your shoes and be completely yourself doesn't it?! So today I'd like to share this laid back, retro family home in the Australian countryside with you. The owners photographer Jessica Tremp and Michael Madden and child Syd only moved in a few months ago but they've already put their personal stamp on the space. Art (mainly by Jessica's father), big leafed plants, yellow accent colours and mid century teak furniture make up the look. There's something that feels incredibly warm about this lovely family home don't you think?

Is there anything you particularly love about this home?

Yesterday I started an evening class in interior design. The aim of the course is to learn how to plan a room from scratch. We spent the evening creating mood boards: ripping pictures out of magazines (interior, fashion and nature) which we felt had the right 'feel' whether they were of a bird, a lamp or a skirt flowing in the wind and sticking them onto an A3 board. The result amazed me. The colours and feel of the room bounced from the board and I could really see the embryo of my new room. So exciting! I can definitely recommend this process to you if you're planning on re-decorating a room in your home.  More tips from next week's session....

Fab kitchen and sitting room in a Swedish apartment

Hello! And happy start to the week to you! The gloves were out today in Sweden (sorry for this continuous obsession with the weather...I am British after all!). BRRR! I could see myself retreating indoors and padding around this beautiful Gothenburg apartment today. I particularly love the kitchen with it's blue cabinets (you can find similar leather door handles here), light grey marble work surface, white walls and original parquet floor. And the touch of mid-century in the sitting room too. What a great space, don't you think?!

A Malmö home with a cool mid-century vibe

There's something kind of cool about this home in a hidden creative corner of Malmö, Sweden. I'm a big fan of mid century finds as you know, but mixed with geometric patterns and the odd splash of colour and greenery. Oh yes! Kind of inspiring for a Monday morning don't you think?!

I've seen quite a lot of IKEA hacks with the Tärnö garden chair and table set. Here they've painted the chairs pillar box red. And I've also seen canary yellow and deep indigo versions- such a simple update but oh so effective!

Old meets new in a Malmö home

Today I thought I'd share a home here in Malmö, Sweden. This space appeals to me as it shows how adding a few primary colours and pastels can really brighten up a space and add a sense of fun. It also helps that the architecture of the apartment is beautiful too - and they have a 'kakelugn' (traditional Swedish tiled fireplace) lucky them! The owners have been bold and added a contemporary edge to an otherwise traditional space with painted chairs, a pink sofa, bold accessories and mid-century finds which all works together to add a very relaxed home, don't you think?

I spot the MASKROS light, String shelving and what looks like a vintage Bumling pendant. I also love the mid-century touch (search Etsy for similar mid-century furniture).

A small space with a big personality

I spotted this Gothenburg apartment over at Stadshem this morning and I thought - ooooo. It's perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but there's something about the black leather sofa, plants and cool art and mid-century mix that I love (as you know I'm a big fan of Scandinavian mid-century in my own home). It's also sightly off beat - the rug is askew, they have used a reclaimed stool as a coffee table and simply piled books on the floor for a more relaxed feel. It's hard to believe that it's a one room flat too!

What do you like most about this space?

It's not an easy look to replicate since many of the items are one off finds. However, second hand black leather sofas are often coming up on Lauritz or LiveAuctioneers and you can search for portrait paintings on Etsy.

If you're in or near Malmö there are some great places to pick up mid-century pieces - once a month Nirvana opens it's doors, and they also have an online shop. If you get lucky you can also pick up cool pieces at Sopstationen (this is my ruse to get you to Malmö! I hope it's working?!).

A Danish home that will put a smile on your face

Since we're nearly at the end of the week, I think today's home tour calls for something virbant and colouful which will brighten up even the dullest of days! Which is why I have selected this Copenhagen home. Just over the bridge in Denmark, this family home has been decorated with bright pops of colour and pastels against a black and white background.  I love how the children's toys blend in to every room in the house to make a fun, relaxed and vibrant family home. Inspiration indeed?!
